Community Resources
In addition to supporting research, the Alzheimer Society of BC provides a variety of community and support services for persons living with Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia.
On their website, find a broad range of supports, including regional programming for the Greater Victoria Area. Programming includes educational seminars, social events such as a bi-weekly “Coffee and Chat”, a “Minds in Motion” fitness program, and support groups for both caregivers and those with AD or Dementia.
Their resource centre for the Greater Victoria Area, where much of their programming takes place, can be found at 202 – 4420 Chatterton Way.
Seniors Serving Seniors Association of BC (SSSBC) is a non-profit, non-partisan organization whose purpose is to promote the well-being of senior citizens through a variety of programs.
In particular, their Seniors Service Directory is a trusted resource to identify a variety of services available to seniors in BC, and can be accessed through their Seniors Link service, which connects seniors with volunteers to provide personalized referrals and recommendations.
Eldercare Foundation works to improve quality of life for seniors on Vancouver Island. They partner with Island Health, donors, and community organizations to fund programs that support aging in place, enhance long-term care, and advance education for caregivers and healthcare professionals.
In particular, their Yakimovich Wellness Centre provides free workshops and educational content for older adults, including caregiver support workshops, chronic condition self-management, end-of-life care and grief support, and community resources for seniors.
Seniors 101 is a local resource whose aim is to feature the products and services that are available for seniors and their families on Vancouver Island.
The Seniors 101 Directory can be accessed online via their website, or in print, through yearly releases (ex. 2025/2026 Greater Victoria Seniors Directory).
The Directory includes sections for:
Island Health’s Community Health Services provides a variety of services in your home and in your community to support residents live safely and independently at home.
Services include assistance with daily tasks like bathing and dressing, specialized nursing care, support with physical rehabilitation, and support for caregivers.
Contact them through their Community Access Line to access their services and programs.
No doctor’s referral is required.
Island Heart to Heart is a non-profit organization supporting those who have recently had a heart attack by providing a cardiac rehabilitation program, delivered online.
Their website lists dates of upcoming rehabilitation program classes, as well as a link to the Take Heart Breathe Well exercise program provided at Saanich Commonwealth Place.
The Red Cross Basic Health Equipment Short Term Program assists people with mobility issues, allows people to return home from hospital earlier, and supports those in palliative care who wish to spend their final days in the comfort of their own home.

Participation in this program will require a referral from one of our clinicians (which we are always happy to make!).
